FilmCAD 2011 Awards

The department of Landscape Architecture presents a LAND7230 FilmCAD collection of short films for your enjoyment. A total of 13 videos will be shown and aftwards a short awards ceremony will be held.

This years brief asked students to promote an Auckland landscape as either a proposal or as an existing site. Students then had to script, storyboard, shoot, model, render, composite and edit the film themselves, and all this was achieved in one semester! Come see the results. All welcome.

FilmCAD 2011 Videos

This year the FilmCAD class of 2011 produced some outstanding videos. The brief was to produce a video for an existing site as either a proposal (ie as if it hadn’t been constructed yet) or as a promotion of that site. The students had to script & storyboard their film, then shoot (incl some green/blue screen footage), edit, and also incorporate rendered 3d models of their chosen site (using e-onsoftwares Vue Infinite). Overall I’m really stoked at the effort, a really good bunch of students and videos, well done everyone.

Vue 9.5

Vue 9.5 is about to be released however I got a pre-release version and had a bit of a play, it’s pretty cool. Unfortunately it wont be on our build until second semester (fingers crossed) but if you want to know more check out e-on’s website or my blog zedspace.wordpress.com.

A test of Vue's new advanced cloud control.

Hello 2011

Hi All, Just thought I’d give you all a shout out as we are getting close to the start of semester. I’m really looking forward to this semester, the Film CAD paper is by far this best paper on campus (IMHO). If you like you can already log into Moodle (http://moodle.unitec.ac.nz) and sign up for a tutorial group, Id recomend the one with the least people in it so you get more one on one time. Note that you can always change which class your in as long as there are places available (you must do this online a couple days before the class is scheduled).
Also another really handy thing I’ve found is DropBox. This is a online file system, really good for storing files that you can access from anything with an internet connection (even an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch). You get 2GB for free. You can also share files which could be handy for studio projects.
I will be encouraging the use of personal blogs, so If you don’t already have one check out either Blogspot or WordPress (or similar). You can check out an example of a student blog here or my own. I’ll talk more about blogs in class.
Also as a heads up look for Landscape designs around the city that you wish you had designed (take photos if you can). All will be clear soon…
[Reposted from Moodle news forum, however you can reply to this one]

Hello world!

Welcome to the brand new (at time of writing) blog for FilmCAD! First thing, I’d just like to point out that this is not just for current FilmCADers but also ex-students of the paper. Please give your feedback and opinions. Theres also a Twitter account @Film_CAD or If you like just tweet or search for the #FilmCAD tag. Also I intend to get all of the past projects up (if I can find them all) and would love your stories etc so stay tuned.
